Description

A 3-tier sectional bookcase made by Simplex, c. 1960’s. This didn’t look like much when we picked it up (see ‘before’ photo), so we were pleasantly surprised when we started working on it and found that it was solid oak.

It was a very drab brown and had been water damaged which had ruined the original doors, one of the section bases and stained the top. Sally has stripped the old finish, sanded it back to remove scratches, removed the water stains with wood bleach, repaired the casing and made new reclaimed ply doors with brass inlay handles. Finally, she’s painted the interior in a deep blue satinwood to constrast with the light oak exterior. The exterior has been treated with a matt-finish oil, which brings out the beautiful oak grain.

The two top sections, which have sliding glass doors, would be perfect to display books, glassware or your action figure collection. We can even supply lighting to highlight your collection on request, or you can add your own (we have drilled discreet holes in the backboard for cables). The bottom section is deeper and has ply sliding doors, perfect for storing games, plates, serving mats or anything else you don’t want on display. We think it would be great in a dining or living room.

This one was a real labour of love, and we’re very pleased with the results. The piece has come up like new, with the only flaw of note being a thin scratch in one of the top glass panels (seen in the photos).

External dimensions: 107 cm tall, 91.5 cm wide, 27.5 cm deep. Internal dimensions: Top section 19 cm deep, 23 cm tall; Middle section 19 cm deep, 27.5 cm tall; Bottom section 24.5 cm deep 34.5 cm tall.
